My name is Sarah Frankel and I, along with Carren Shulman, are the incoming co-chairs of the 2013 IWIRC NY board. While we did not intend to reach out or introduce ourselves this early, the needs of our community following Super Storm Sandy have pushed us to action. We understand this has been a trying time for all and would like to take this opportunity to help where we can. With that spirit of community in mind, we are beginning a few post-storm recovery initiatives to unite our resources and efforts and help NY get back on its feet as quickly as possible.
Beginning this week, IWIRC NY will be organizing several “Donation Centers” around the city. Collected items will be donated to local area shelters for NY residents displaced by the storm. A list of donation sites and needed items can be found below. Alternatively, you may make a financial donation to the recovery effort through our EventBrite account (details below). Additionally over the coming weeks, as damage is assessed and the needs of the region become more clear, we will organize hands-on volunteer efforts where needed. Please reply directly to me if you are interested in these volunteer opportunities and we will add you to a separate volunteer email distribution list. Finally, if you have any specific needs that IWIRC NY may be able to help you with, please do not be shy. We are here to help each other, so please speak.
Thank you to everyone in advance for your help. We are all honored to serve as your board and look forward to making you proud in these times of need and in the year to come. Finally, feel free to share this recovery assistance opportunity with your friends outside IWIRC.
